When I came across the website for this this folding Dinghy the
"Origami" I was
immediately impressed.
First by the sheer delight of the idea, and then
after watching the video of Origami skimming the water at 14 knots, by the potential usefulness of a small craft
that can so easily be brought into service without the
inconveniences associated with an inflatable.
Furthermore they send you the plans to make it yourself ... I
have not sent off for mine yet, but suspect the day will come, the
temptation is too much!
The Origami
Plans are also available for several more lightweight boats, which
could possibly be regarded as modern updates of that ever useful
classic the Coracle.
Another lightweight innovation is the "Stasha" which comes apart into two
halves for storage with the stern section neatly stacking inside the
bow section when it is not in use.
The Stasha
Also on offer is the Fliptail, which
collapses lengthways to fold into a conveniently flat storage
package
....... and finally the Deckster, which has options
of both sail and pedal power.
